Maddison Brown: Kidman was so encouraging

Maddison-Brown:-Kidman-was-so-encouraging
Maddison Brown says Nicole Kidman encouraged her to keep acting.

The Miu Miu model is making the transition to Hollywood star by scooping the part of Lily Parker in drama Strangerland.

Acting alongside main star Nicole was a pretty big deal for the newcomer, who felt reassured when the 48-year-old praised her efforts.

"She didn't give me tips as far as techniques, but one day we were chatting and I was telling her about all of my modelling experiences. I was sort of at a crossroads: I wanted to pursue acting 100 per cent but still felt ties to the modelling industry. I still do. So she said to me, 'You should keep doing this. You're good at it.' Which was, obviously, really encouraging," Maddison recalled to WWD.

"One day she said to me, 'You never complain! That's good.' And I was like, 'Nicole, I've been a model for four years - I have nothing to complain about.' Treatment on-set as an actor versus treatment as a model is very, very different."

Maddison describes her character Lily as a teenager who has "daddy issues" and is still discovering herself. Due to her complicated relationship with her father, the young woman starts seeking the approval of other males, trying to connect with them through sex.

It's not an easy subject, but watching back her first movie role wasn't as hard as Maddison had feared.

"Honestly, I was surprised because I didn't really have a reaction," she admitted.

"I thought I would be cringing and uncomfortable but I was pretty neutral. I think after doing so many self-tapes in the last 12 months, and watching them over and critiquing and directing myself, I was immune to seeing myself act on camera."

Strangerland hits US cinemas today.
