The 48-year-old actress has embodied an array of roles throughout her career, from a psychiatrist in Gothika to an anti-hero in Catwoman.
Although the latter film earned her a Razzie, Halle is still determined to push the boundaries for all females in the movie industry.
"I think it's really important that we keep forging ahead. Being women of colour, not necessarily letting our colour precede us, but just search out strong, character-driven, complicated roles that we can play. We no longer have to be in the background or be the sidekicks," she insisted to Deadline. "If we continue to fight for those kinds of roles, knowing that at the same time you're going to have to face a certain amount of failure or ridicule. Any time you risk big you often risk losing big. You can win big but you can also lose big, but you have to be willing to take those risks."
Although Catwoman was deemed a flop, Halle has seen success in the X-Men franchise. She plays Ororo Munroe / Storm in four of the movies, the most recent being last year's Days of Future Past.
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine had his own movie under the X-Men umbrella in 2009, followed by a spin-off in 2013, and Halle would love to see the same for her mutant alter ego.
"In a heartbeat. In a heartbeat I would do a Storm movie. I love that character through and through. So if that ever became an opportunity for me, if it's before I'm 65 years old, I would absolutely do that," she gushed.
