Michael Fassbender: I don’t fear failure

Michael-Fassbender:-I-don't-fear-failure Printable version

Michael Fassbender thinks people are too concerned about being labelled a "loser".

The actor isn't afraid to take risks with his career, donning a papier mâché head in Frank and stripping off completely for controversial flick Shame.

While wearing the fake head made him feel safe to embrace the character, appearing in the nude was a completely different experience.

"The problem is there's too much pressure," he explained to German magazine Jolie. "We are scared of looking stupid or being labelled a loser. In those moments I think to myself, 'What's the worst that can happen?' If I fall down, I'll hopefully get back up again and start over. Or I'll just do something else."

His productive attitude means Michael is always on the lookout for ways to improve his performance. That includes watching back his films, even if it's not much fun.

"I love it! That's why I watch them over and over!" he joked. "But seriously, it's not a lot of fun and a bit like hearing your voice on an answering machine and not even recognising the sound. But it's just part of my job, seeing what I've done well and what I've done badly."

Michael's latest role is in western flick Slow West, a smaller thriller that also stars Ben Mendelsohn. The actor is always happy to take on indie projects.

"I pick according to the script and if it's good, I'll embark on the adventure," he smiled.
