Actor Jim Carrey will attend the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (10Jan16), marking his first public appearance since the death of his ex-girlfriend.

The Mask star’s former partner, Cathriona White, was found dead on 28 September (15), just days after the couple had reportedly split.

Jim, 53, flew to Cathriona’s native Ireland to act as a pallbearer at her funeral, and he has kept a low profile ever since.

However, on Tuesday, (05Jan16) it was announced the actor will return to the spotlight to present an award at the 73rd Golden Globes on 10 January.

Jim was just one of the big names announced as a Golden Globes presenter by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, with others including Amy Adams, Patricia Arquette, Jamie Foxx, Amber Heard, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kate Hudson and Helen Mirren.

Last year’s Lead Actor and Actress winners Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore will also present a gong, as will Mel Gibson, who has been the butt of host Ricky Gervais' jokes in the past.

At the time of Cathriona’s death, Jim issued a statement to Extra expressing his sorrow at her passing.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” he began. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”

Jim and Cathriona met in 2012 after she moved from Ireland to pursue a career as a make-up artist in Los Angeles. They began dating two years after the end of his relationship with model and TV personality Jenny McCarthy, and while they broke up after only a few months together, Jim and Cathriona had reportedly rekindled their romance in May (15).

“My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her,” Jim continued. “We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
