Star Wars: The Force Awakens reaches 50M in first week



The film which has been applauded by critics and fans alike has just become the first film to reach £50million at the UK box office within seven days. The result means that within just one week Star Wars: The Force Awakens has over taken the entire lifetime box office of Marvel’s Avengers Age of Ultron, Disney’s Frozen, The Dark Knight, Fifty Shades of Grey, The King’s Speech, 4 out of the 8 Harry Potter films and the entire Hunger Games and Twilight series’. The film’s cume is currently £51.4m in the UK and in excess of $700m globally.


Earlier this week the latest episode in the Star Wars saga also claimed the biggest ever opening weekend both globally and within the UK after opening in a record breaking 670 sites on over 2700 screens across the country. Ticket bookings before release were also the highest on record according to industry experts with over two million sold and audiences show no sign of abating.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens sees Lucasfilm and visionary director J.J. Abrams join forces to take audiences back to a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars returns to the big screen from December 17th 2015. The film stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by J.J. Abrams & Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt.
