Dakota Johnson has blasted Hollywood for no longer casting her mother Melanie Griffith in movies.

The 26-year-old actress has seen her own career star rise over the last few years, with her casting in 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey cementing her status as a major player. However work for Melanie, 58, has slowed considerably. Once the golden girl of cinema, Melanie now tends to star in TV shows and movies made for the small screen. Dakota is equally as unimpressed that her grandmother, The Birds actress Tippi Hedren, also no longer wins roles.

"Why isn't my mother in movies?" Dakota fumed to Vogue. "She's an extraordinary actress! Why isn't my grandmother in movies? This industry is f**king brutal.

"No matter how tough you are, sometimes there’s the feeling of not being wanted. It’s absurd and cut-throat. Whenever I have downtime, I’m unsure that I will ever work again.”

Reflecting on her role as Anastasia Steele in the film version of E. L. James' kinky novel, Dakota reveals she's proud of the movie. “Do I think it opened doors?" she pondered. "Yeah. More people know my name.”

She'll reprise the role in 2017's Fifty Shades Darker and 2018's Fifty Shades Freed alongside Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey. Jamie recently spoke about the awkwardness of the sex scenes the pair are required to film, amid rumours he's set to go fully naked in the next instalment.

“Anyone will tell you that sex scenes, regardless of the content of the film, are always a tricky experience and relatively uncomfortable," he confessed.

Dakota has also admitted she "went blank" after making and promoting Fifty Shades of Grey.
